If you’ve been keeping up with my last two blog posts (Choosing the Right Photographer and Choosing the Right Photographer Part Two) then you probably have more questions in regards to booking! I guess we’ll call this part three of choosing the right photographer… HIRING! These are questions that we are frequently asked. When considering ANY photographer, we think these are the most crucial questions to answer.

How would you describe your photography style?

Our style is soft and romantic. We primarily work with natural light but work with off camera flashes when needed. We aim to pose our couples in the most flattering matter, yet make it appear natural and unposed.

What kind of equipment do you use?

Believe it or not, all 8 of us work with Canon equipment! We have a variety of lenses, off camera flashes, and flash modifiers.

How do you protect your files?

After each wedding, we backup our files on to THREE separate drives. Yes, really, three! This ensures that if one were to crash, we have your images backed up on two more physical hard drives. We also use an online server (like the Cloud) where we digitally back up each wedding. We store our high resolution files on a website.

How many photos will I receive?

This depends on the the package that you book and there is no exact science to the amount of images you will receive. We typically aim for 100 photos per hour of coverage. Again, this is not an exact number, simply an estimate.

What is your turn around time?

You will receive your edited images 4-6 weeks after your wedding date.

What happens if you’re ill or in an accident?

We are always prepared for the worst case scenario. While we certainly hope it’s not the case, we ALWAYS have at least one other photographer on call for your wedding day.

Can we give you a list of shots or send you our Pinterest board?

While Pinterest is great, we love when our clients allow us to be creative. The other problem with Pinterest boards is that sometimes the poses will not work for everybody. We want you to have images where you look phenomenal! We are happy to look them over and if you have an absolute must have, please do share it with us!

We have a typical family list that we typically work with. Two weeks before your wedding, we ask you to fill out a questionnaire about key family members that you’d like in your photos. If there is a special grouping (i.e. college friends, cousins, and extended family) then please share with us!

Can we share our photos on Facebook/Instagram and with our family/friends?

Absolutely! We LOVE when our clients share our work. All we ask is that you kindly tag us in your photos @shy_heart_studios or #shyheartstudios

Now that we’ve gotten through the nitty gritty, check out this beautiful wedding at Wedgewood at The Retreat photographed by Rachel.

Choosing the Right Photographer Part Two

I told you we’d be back with more tips about hiring the right photographer! While budget, style, and personality are crucial in picking your photographer, the largest deciding factor is trusting your photographer.

It is our job to make you feel beautiful and at ease on your wedding day. We are highly  trained professionals who LOVE what we do. When it’s finally your wedding day, you want to relax after the months and months of planning.

The right photographer will…

  1. Know how to pose you in the most flattering manner. While Pinterest is a wonderful source of inspiration, it can inhibit your photographer from getting creative. We love our art! Another thing that can be challenging with Pinterest photographs is that no two people photograph the same. We want to pose you in a way that is most flattering to you. You should look and feel your best!
  2. Choose the perfect backdrop. Before weddings, we always arrive early to scope out the best spots for you photos. We walk the property to find the most beautiful and scenic spots for your photos.
  3. Find the perfect light. Did you know that photography is actually defined as “the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light…” Isn’t that beautiful? Part of our job is to study light. We track light, observe the color, and choose locations with the most flattering light for photos.

Hopefully this helps shed a little light (see what I did there? eh? okay, moving on…) on wedding photography.
